Thank you for referring me to San Antonio Endodontics. My consultation appointment was last Monday. This is the day they set aside for consultations. I researched, on-line, this doctors’ group and was pleasantly surprised – not a single bad review!
All my life, I have heard that root canals are awful; so with no choice, I made the appointment and was greeted by Jimmy and Donna, Endondontics’ front desk clerk and greeter. So far, this was going acceptably well. I was soon ushered into the examining room and attended by staff who took several x-rays. They took several because they thought my blurred root was a fault of their machinery or that I moved during the picture taking. I told them your x-rays also showed a blurred root. This satisfied them.
I was assigned to Dr. Cloutier who confirmed my need for, in my words, the dreaded root canal. His resume is to my liking and he has an outgoing, wonderful personality. All of my qualms disappeared.
Next, I met two of his account administrators. Lovely women and they clearly explained my charges and set-up my appointment for two weeks out. They asked if I would accept an earlier appointment if one presented itself. I said, “No”. However, they telephoned me the next day and had an appointment opening the following day – I took it!
Two days ago, I had my root canal and it was such a positive experience that I must write this epistle to you. Thank you for referring me to San Antonio Endodontics. (Do you know, they do nine root canals each day? Amazing.)
Because Novocaine shots are the worst part of getting a filling, I took 200 mg of Ibuprofen before heading there. They would have given me this, but I called ahead to confirm taking this approach and was told to go ahead. Probably, they would have given me a 600 mg dose, but I know my body and 200 mg is what I wanted. My root canal began at 1:45. Upon entering the exam room, Allison clearly explained the procedure. Dr. Cloutier came into the room, and administered the Novocaine. Never in 80 years have I received Novocaine so easily. I barely felt the needle~ (read this with several exclamation symbols. Wonderful experience.) Then I was left in the room for five to ten minutes while the Novocaine took effect. I looked out their large windows and enjoyed the fifth floor scenery — beautiful, moisture laden clouds and trees changing colors.
When the Novocaine became effective, Allison and Dr. Coutier entered the room. I was given very nice dark glasses. A rubber-like mask with a dime-size hole was placed over my mouth through which Dr. Cloutier performs the root canal. He adjusted his microscope – a large contraption with a lens for each of his eyes (it appeared similar to looking through field glasses). The scope has a laser beam, a high intensity light focused through the dime sized hole in the patient’s mask, and a huge apparatus to hold the equipment in place with no wiggling. He began working.
While Dr. Cloutier worked, he infrequently took his eyes from the microscope. Mostly, he remained focused on my tooth through his microscope. He frequently changed tools – Allison anticipated his every need for each tool. Their’s was a coordinated effort and very impressive. It was like Allison read his mind. He put out his hand with a tool, she rapidly and smoothly took the tool and replaced it with the next needed tool without being told which tool was needed.
A little over an hour later, they were finished. I took some iPhone photos of my x-rays and thanked them for a wonderful experience. I am SUPER IMPRESSED!
Oh, yes. I almost forgot. Dr. Cloutier has country western music playing in the room. He hummed along with the music. He was entertaining and I enjoyed his concert.
I was given a prescription for 600 mg of Ibuprofen and an antibiotic. I have not needed the Ibuprofen – not at all. And, my occlusion is perfect although I must return to my general dentist for a crown. My mouth never felt any pain or soreness. This was a wonderful experience!

I have had alot of dental work in the last year since my bi-lateral jt replacement and was worried about more work and another new Dr. From the moment I talked with the girls at the desk to my appt with Dr Clouters , to his asst I was put at ease. By far the least unpleasant experience I have ever had for anything being done at a dentist office. I had a root canal and based on previous experience I was expecting the worst and everything I experienced that day was as wonderful a dental experience as I could imagine having at a dental office. I didn't have to wait before being taken back even though once I was in the back they seemed to be busy with a lot of patients, the procedure was much quicker then previous experiences, even the numbing shots didn't seem to hurt as much. Usually after the dentist even my neck/head hurts from being in an awkward position or having my mouth open for a long time but I was fine. My experience on 11/4/2019 for my root canal bothered me less then an average cavity filling, and everyone was nice, professional, and did they're job. I would definitely recommend anyone needing a root canal to go there. I saw Dr. James Ball. The only more pleasant experience I have endured at a dentist office had nothing to do with dentistry, you can infer what you want but i was about 11 years old.

08/06/2019 My family dentist referred me to San Antonio Endodontics for a root canal treatment. The whole front office and as well as the nurses (dental tech) are very friendly and professional. Dr Cloutier was the individual that taking care of my treatment together with the 2 dental tech ( Venessa & Valerie). Their bedside manner were excellent as well as their demeanor. They explained thoroughly what the procedures that need to be done, that really put me at ease. Country music playing on the background and Dr Cloutier starts to work on the treatment, he and the dental tech works very well ( it is a very good team work). The whole procedures took a total of approximately 90 minutes, and we were done. The therapy is done and I am a happy camper. And lastly, I would like to thanks Dr Cloutier and the dental tech Venessa and Valerie for their attentive professional service. Mucho, mucho, Gracias! hasta luego!
